Besides the Entei V prints of VSTAR Universe, the Fire beast also has a run of regular, non-V cards under Sword & Shield era set codes. This guide is the checklist for the Japanese エンテイ in S5I, S6a, S11a, SD and SO: one Entei entry in the official Japanese card database for each code, each with its own number, illustrator and card text.
The official database does not print rarity letters, so none appear here. Every number, HP value, illustrator credit and card text below comes from the database page for that card, and the card images are the official database images. USD figures convert at ¥154/USD, approximate.
- Five regular Entei prints sit under the codes S5I 009/070, S6a 014/069, S11a 014/068, SD 014/127 and SO 008/030. The database holds one Entei entry for each.
- HP is 130 on S5I, SD and SO, and 120 on S6a and S11a. The credits are kodama (S5I and SO), NC Empire (S6a), Nisota Niso (S11a) and Shin Nagasawa (SD).
- S5I 009/070 and SO 008/030 carry identical card text, and so does the Start Deck 100 print SI 055/414. A number and illustrator check is the only way to place a copy.
- None of the five is an Entei V. For the V prints, see our Entei V PSA 10 guide.
The Five-Print Checklist
Every regular Entei in this checklist is a Basic Pokémon whose database page shows the line No.244 かざんポケモン (the Volcano Pokémon line, rendering). The table puts the five prints side by side, ordered alphabetically by set code.
| Set and number | Database card ID | Illustrator | HP | Attacks and abilities (Japanese name) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SD 014/127 | 38286 | Shin Nagasawa | 130 | まきかえす, ほのおのたてがみ |
| SO 008/030 | 42233 | kodama | 130 | ヒートダッシュ, ほのおのキバ |
Use the table as a lookup, not as a ranking. The five rows are listed alphabetically by set code, and nothing about the order implies age, scarcity or price. The sections below keep the same order, so the heading you need is the set code printed on your card.
None of the five database pages shows a rarity letter, a release date or a regulation mark that we can quote, so this guide gives none. What each page does give is enough to place a card in your hand: the number over the denominator, the illustrator credit, the HP and the printed text. The broader family is covered in our Entei cards guide and the legendary beasts guide.
S5I 009/070 (kodama)
The S5I entry is numbered 009/070 and credits kodama. It is a Basic Pokémon with HP 130 and no ability.

The card text, rendered from the printed Japanese (rendering): the first attack, ヒートダッシュ (Heat Dash), does 30 and lets you choose 1 Energy card from your hand and attach it to this Pokémon if you wish. The second, ほのおのキバ (Fire Fang), does 90 and leaves the opponent’s Active Pokémon Burned.
Because the attack pair is the same on the Special Deck Set print and the Start Deck 100 print, the number is what separates this card from those two. Both are covered further down.
S6a 014/069 (NC Empire)
The S6a entry is numbered 014/069 and credits NC Empire. It is a Basic Pokémon with HP 120, ten points below the 130 of S5I, and its text differs from the other four.

The card text, rendered (rendering): ふんぬのキバ (Fang of Fury) does 10 damage for each damage counter on all of your Benched 「いちげき」 Pokémon (the printed tag, left untranslated), so its damage depends on your Bench. ヒートタックル (Heat Tackle) does 120, and this Pokémon also takes 30 damage.
An attack named ヒートタックル also appears on Mitsuhiro Arita’s XY 011/171 card, at 130 damage with the 30 recoil tied to a coin flip; the S6a card prints 120 and no coin flip. They are different cards with a shared attack name, which is a reason to read the number rather than the name.
S11a 014/068 (Nisota Niso)
The S11a entry is numbered 014/068 and credits Nisota Niso. It is a Basic Pokémon with HP 120 and the only one of the five with an ability.

The card text, rendered (rendering): the ability ばくねつダッシュ (Blazing Dash) says that if this Pokémon has Energy attached, all the Energy needed for it to retreat is removed. Its single attack, ツメできりさく (Claw Slash), does 90. The card therefore has one attack and one ability where the other four prints have two attacks.
SD 014/127 (Shin Nagasawa)
The SD entry is numbered 014/127 and credits Shin Nagasawa. It is a Basic Pokémon with HP 130.

The card text, rendered (rendering): まきかえす (Comeback) does 30 and 90 more if one of your Pokémon was Knocked Out by damage from an attack during the opponent’s last turn. ほのおのたてがみ (Flame Mane) does 100.
The same text and the same illustrator credit appear on the database entry for SM11a 011/064. The credit and text match; the database page does not say whether the artwork is shared, so this guide does not either.
The S4a box above is a sealed product from the same era, not a source for the five Entei prints: the official database lists no Entei entry under the code S4a. We list it as a sealed box from the same era.
SO 008/030 (kodama, Special Deck Set)
The SO entry is numbered 008/030 and credits kodama, the same credit as S5I. SO is the code for the Special Deck Set our catalogue names “Lizardon VSTAR vs Rayquaza VSTAR” (one listing writes “Rayquaza VMAX”). It is a Basic Pokémon with HP 130.

The card text, rendered (rendering), is the S5I text: ヒートダッシュ (Heat Dash) does 30 and lets you attach 1 Energy from your hand if you wish, and ほのおのキバ (Fire Fang) does 90 and Burns the opponent’s Active Pokémon. Our Entei cards checklist lists this entry with the other 30.
Damage and Text at a Glance
Reading five cards one by one hides how differently they are built. This table lines up the printed damage numbers, all taken from the database text and rendered rather than quoted (rendering).
| HP | First attack or ability | Second attack | Condition or drawback printed | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S5I 009/070 | 130 | Heat Dash: 30 | Fire Fang: 90 | Optional Energy attachment from hand; Burns the Active Pokémon |
| S6a 014/069 | 120 | Fang of Fury: 10 for each damage counter on your Benched 「いちげき」 Pokémon | Heat Tackle: 120 | 30 damage to this Pokémon |
| S11a 014/068 | 120 | Ability Blazing Dash: retreat Energy removed if Energy is attached | Claw Slash: 90 | None printed |
| SD 014/127 | 130 | Comeback: 30, plus 90 after a Knock Out | Flame Mane: 100 | The bonus needs one of your Pokémon to have been Knocked Out by an attack on the opponent’s last turn |
| SO 008/030 | 130 | Heat Dash: 30 | Fire Fang: 90 | Same text as S5I |
Two structural points follow from the database text. First, none of the five carries a special-rule line: the database text for an Entei V ends with the line that the opponent takes 2 Prize cards when a Pokémon V is Knocked Out, and the regular prints have no such line. Second, HP separates the two families cleanly: 120 or 130 for the regular prints against 230 for every Entei V. These are facts about the printed text, not a statement about how any card plays.
A practical consequence for sorting a binder: if the card in your hand shows HP 120 or 130 and a single stage line reading Basic, it is not an Entei V; other XY-, SM- and SV-era regular prints show the same HP values, so the set code and number decide whether it is one of the five prints here. If it shows HP 230 and the ability しゅんそく, it is a V.
Same Card Text, Different Prints
Three groups of the Entei entries share their printed text. The groups matter because a text check alone cannot separate them; the number and the set code can.
| Shared text | Prints with that text | Illustrator credit | What separates them |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heat Dash + Fire Fang (HP 130) | S5I 009/070, SO 008/030, SI 055/414 | kodama on all three | Set code and number only |
| Comeback + Flame Mane (HP 130) | SD 014/127, SM11a 011/064 | Shin Nagasawa on both | Set code and number only |
| Pressure + Blaze Ball (HP 130) | SV3 016/108, SV4a 028/190, SVJL 005/021 | toriyufu on all three | Set code and number; SV4a also has a 213/190 print credited to Ryuta Fuse |
The SI 055/414 entry belongs to Start Deck 100, and our Start Deck 100 Entei guide covers it with the Entei V that sits beside it. The SV3, SV4a and SVJL entries are the later regular prints; our 2023 to 2026 regular prints guide sets them out.
How to Place the Entei in Your Hand
Place a loose Entei in this order. The first match settles the print.
- Read the number over the denominator. 009/070, 014/069, 014/068, 014/127 and 008/030 each point to one row of the checklist above.
- Check the first attack. Heat Dash points to S5I or SO; Fang of Fury points to S6a; Comeback points to SD; a card with an ability and one attack points to S11a.
- Check the illustrator line. kodama, NC Empire, Nisota Niso and Shin Nagasawa are four different credits for the five prints, and kodama is credited on both S5I and SO, so for that pair only the number and set code separate the two.
- Check the set mark on the card. A matching set code confirms the row. A card whose number is not in this guide is a different print.
If the number is worn or unreadable, the illustrator line and the first attack together narrow the field to one or two rows, and the set mark settles the rest. If none of that is legible, compare the card face against the official database images on this page.
The card text is the second layer. A deck-set card can look identical to an expansion-pack card of the same name, which is why the guide asks for the number first.
Where the Entei V Prints Fit
The four Entei V rows in the database (three printed numbers; SI 056/414 appears twice) are separate from this checklist: S12a 019/172 (PLANETA Mochizuki), S12a 213/172 (Shigenori Negishi) and the Start Deck 100 print SI 056/414 (PLANETA Mochizuki). All of them show HP 230, the ability しゅんそく and the attack バーニングロンド. We list the S12a 213/172 card as a PSA 10 back order at ¥15,525 (~$101) as of October 29, 2026, sourced to order; the product page shows the current terms. Our Entei V PSA 10 guide reads all the V rows in full.
If you are comparing our listed Entei prices across eras, the Entei value guide ranks them in one table.
Entei and the October 29, 2026 Trademark Report
On October 29, 2026 fan sites reported a Japanese trademark filing for 「マグマの鼓動」, which collectors read as a possible Entei set; nothing is announced. Our trademark explainer explains what is confirmed and what is not. The wider set of names is in the ex★ 2027 trademarks round-up.
Where to Buy Pokémon Cards from Japan
We do not currently list a PSA 10 for the five Entei prints in this checklist on October 29, 2026. Here is what we list that touches the same character or era:
- S4A-Shiny Star V Japanese Pokemon Booster Box: currently listed at ¥21,232 (~$138).
- Entei XY 011/171 (The Best of XY), a visible PSA 10 listing: currently listed at ¥41,088 (~$267).
- Entei V SAR S12a 213/172, a PSA 10 back order: ¥15,525 (~$101), sourced to order.
Browse the card list hub for our listed singles by set. A sourcing request for one of the five prints goes through Quick Order, and the product page shows the current terms for anything we list. For where this checklist sits in the wider record, read the Entei cards guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Entei cards does the database list for S5I, S6a, S11a, SD and SO?
One for each code: S5I 009/070, S6a 014/069, S11a 014/068, SD 014/127 and SO 008/030. All five are Basic Pokémon with the No.244 line, and none is an Entei V.
Who illustrated the five Entei prints?
kodama is credited on S5I 009/070 and SO 008/030, NC Empire on S6a 014/069, Nisota Niso on S11a 014/068 and Shin Nagasawa on SD 014/127.
Which of these Entei cards share the same text?
S5I 009/070 and SO 008/030 share the Heat Dash and Fire Fang text, and so does the Start Deck 100 print SI 055/414. SD 014/127 shares its text with SM11a 011/064. The number and the set code are what separate them.
Do the five prints show a rarity in the database?
No. The official database pages show the number, illustrator, HP and card text, but no rarity letter, so this guide gives none.
Are any of these cards an Entei V?
No. The Entei V prints are S12a 019/172, S12a 213/172 and the Start Deck 100 print SI 056/414. All three show HP 230.
Do you list a PSA 10 for these five Entei prints?
Not on October 29, 2026. We list Entei XY 011/171 as a visible PSA 10 and other Entei prints as PSA 10 back orders, and a sourcing request for one of the five goes through Quick Order.
