Raikou Gold Star Pokemon Card: Japanese 039/106 Guide (2005 ★ Print)

Raikou Gold Star Pokemon Card: Japanese 039/106 Guide (2005 ★ Print)

Raikou Gold Star is the name collectors use for the 2005 Raikou★ card, Japanese number 039/106, printed in the PCG4 expansion pack “Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean” (ライコウ in the official database spelling). It is one of three Gold Star beast cards, and it is easy to confuse with other Raikou numbers that share the same digits. This guide pins down what our own fact-checked guides record about the card, what they do not record, and how to ask us to source a copy.

We sell Japanese sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo. USD figures convert at ¥154/USD and are approximate. Everything below is limited to facts our published guides and the official Japanese card database give; where a fact is missing we say so.

Key Takeaways
  • Raikou★ is Japanese number 039/106 in PCG4 “Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean” (Friday, April 8, 2005); the English counterpart is 114/115 in EX Unseen Forces (Monday, August 22, 2005). HP 80, illustrator Masakazu Fukuda.
  • Our store has no Gold Star Raikou listing on October 29, 2026. Sourcing requests for a specific card go through Quick Order.
  • 039/106 is not the same card as the e4 Raikou 039/088 — same first three digits, different set. Always give the number and the denominator.
  • No image of the Gold Star Raikou exists in our sources, so the pictures below show other Raikou cards from the eras around it.

What the Raikou Gold Star Print Is

The ★ in the card name is the Gold Star mark of the PCG era (2003 to roughly 2006, the period when Japanese expansions carried PCG numbering). The Japanese expansion is PCG4, “Expansion Pack: Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean” — our site also writes it “Gold Sky Silver Sea” — released on Friday, April 8, 2005. The English counterpart appeared in EX Unseen Forces on Monday, August 22, 2005.

These cards predate the 2007 start of the official Japanese card database, so the database that we use for modern Raikou prints has no page for this one. The details above therefore come from our own published guide, Entei, Raikou & Suicune: Card Value Guide, which describes the three Gold Star beasts as collector targets two decades on.

The Gold Star Trio: Entei, Raikou, Suicune

Raikou is one of three. The same two sets carry an Entei★ and a Suicune★, all with HP 80 and the same credited illustrator. The numbers are not in the same order in the two languages, which is where mix-ups start.

Pokémon English number (EX Unseen Forces) Japanese number (PCG4)
Entei★ 113/115 019/106
Raikou★ 114/115 039/106
Suicune★ 115/115 032/106

In English the three occupy the last three slots, 113 to 115 of 115, in the order Entei, Raikou, Suicune. In the Japanese set the order is different: Entei is 019, Suicune is 032 and Raikou is 039 of 106. If a seller lists “Raikou Gold Star 114” the card is the English print; “Raikou 039/106” is the Japanese print.

One cross-check against our own catalogue. Our Entei back-order listing is named “Entei: 1ED [PCG4 019/106] (Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean)”, so the 019/106 print our listing carries matches the Gold Star Entei by number and set. That listing is currently offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥2,570,400 (~$16,691) — sourced to order; the product page shows the current terms. The Entei figure describes the Entei card only; it is not a price guide for the Raikou, which has no listing from us.

Reading the Numbers: 039/106 vs 039/088

The Raikou cards we handle share a lot of two- and three-digit numbers. The part after the slash is the printed size of the set, and together with the set code it helps identify the print. Here are the Raikou numbers that appear in this guide and in our listings.

Number What it is Era marker
039/106 Raikou★ Gold Star, PCG4 “Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean” 2005, PCG era
039/088 Raikou 1st Edition, e4 “Split Earth” (as our listing names it) e-series, dot-code era
071/069 Raikou EX SR 1st Edition, BW4 “Dark Rush” (as our listing names it) Black & White era
038/172 Raikou V, S12a “VSTAR Universe” Sword & Shield era
024/076 Raikou ex, M6 “Storm Emeralda” 2026 Mega era

The trap is 039. The Gold Star Raikou is 039/106, and the e-series Raikou we list as a PSA 10 back order is 039/088. They differ in set code and full number, yet a search for “Raikou 039” brings up both. When you request a card from us, give the full number with the denominator and the set name.

Two further markers help. An Old Back card (the design used from the October 1996 launch until Pokemon VS on Thursday, July 19, 2001) never carries a 1ED stamp, according to our Japanese old back guide. And only the e1 to e5 sets carry dot-code strips, per our e-Reader guide. The Gold Star print falls in neither group: it belongs to the PCG series. Our sources do not say whether a 1st Edition stamp exists on the Japanese Gold Star Raikou, so we do not assume one.

What Our Sources Do Not Say

A short card guide is only useful if it separates what is documented from what is not. This is the known-and-unknown list for the Raikou Gold Star as of October 29, 2026.

We do not fill the gaps with marketplace figures. Prices from third-party sites are asking prices, and a number from another seller is not evidence of what a card is worth to you. When we do list a Raikou, the price shown is ours and is linked to the product page.

Raikou Through the Eras

The Gold Star print sits in the middle of a long run of Raikou cards. Seeing its neighbours helps with identification, because every era numbers and designs its cards differently. The first three rows come from our guides (no official database page); the rest are official database entries, where the database credits the illustrator.

Two of those cards help explain the Gold Star’s neighbourhood. The Neo Revelation Raikou is the oldest, and Premium File 3 (Thursday, November 23, 2000) carries Raikou among nine legendary-focused cards, though our guides do not give its card number. The e4 Raikou comes from the era of the Card e-Reader, which launched in Japan on Saturday, December 1, 2001, together with e1.

Raikou 1st Edition, e4 039/088 “Split Earth” — the e-series card that shares the digits 039 with the Gold Star

After the Gold Star, the Raikou line moves through the LEGEND combination cards of Reviving Legends (released Thursday, February 11, 2010), where Raikou is printed together with Entei on one pair of cards and with Suicune on another. A LEGEND card is made of two physical cards, an upper and a lower half, that are put on the Bench together; the official text tells the player the opponent takes 2 Prize cards when it is knocked out. Then comes the BW4 Dark Rush Raikou EX 025/069 by shizurow, which has 170 HP.

The modern cards are different in kind. Raikou V in VSTAR Universe has an ability that lets you draw 1 card from your deck once during your turn while it is in the Active Spot (rendering), and a secret-numbered 218/172 print illustrated by nagimiso. In 2026 the Mega era added three Raikou ex prints in Storm Emeralda and a 162/103 reprint in 30th CELEBRATION; our Raikou 162/103 guide covers that reprint and our Raikou V PSA 10 guide covers the V.

The Raikou Prints We List

There is no Gold Star Raikou in our catalogue, but there are other Raikou prints and one sealed set that contains a Raikou. Each Raikou below is offered as a PSA 10 back order — sourced to order; the product page shows the current terms.

Card Listing name PSA 10 back order
Raikou 1st Edition, e4 039/088 PSA10 Raikou :1ED [e4 039/088] (Expansion Pack Vol.4 “Split Earth”) ¥264,600 (~$1,718)
Raikou EX SR 1st Edition, BW4 071/069 PSA10 Raikou EX SR :1ED [BW4 071/069] (Expansion Pack “Dark Rush”) ¥148,720 (~$966)
Raikou V 218/172, S12a PSA10 Raikou V SAR [s12a 218/172] (High Class Pack “VSTAR Universe”) ¥18,574 (~$121)

For a sealed route to a Raikou, the M6a 30th CELEBRATION set contains the Raikou 162/103 reprint. A sealed box is a purchase of packs, not of a specific card, and what a given box contains is not something we can state in advance.

Raikou 162/103, M6a 30th CELEBRATION, illustrator Hideki Ishikawa (official database image)

The M6a card is a Basic Raikou with 110 HP, and its attack, written アメイジングシュート120 in the database, hits the opponent’s Active Pokémon for 120 and also 120 to one Benched Pokémon (rendering). The listing page M6a card list shows the full set.

Sourcing a Gold Star Copy

Because the Raikou Gold Star has no listing on our site, the route is a sourcing request. Sourcing requests for a specific card go through Quick Order, and the product page shows the current terms for anything we list.

📩 MembersGet member-only sale alerts & coupons

A request is most useful when it names the card the way this guide does:

  • Japanese number and set: Raikou★ 039/106, PCG4 “Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean”.
  • Language: Japanese print. The English print is 114/115 in EX Unseen Forces.
  • Condition target: raw or graded, and if graded, which grader and grade you want.
  • The look-alike to avoid: say explicitly that you do not mean the e4 Raikou 039/088.

We cannot tell you in advance that a copy exists, what it will cost, or how long a search will take; those depend on what is found. What we can do is make sure the request is specific enough that the card found is the card you meant.

A final identification habit that applies to every card in this guide: compare the printed number on the card with the number in the table above before comparing anything else. Artwork can be reused across sets — our Raikou 162/103 guide covers a Classic Collection reprint — but the card name, set code, full number and any documented edition together identify a print.

Where to Buy Raikou Cards from Japan

This is what we currently list for Raikou collectors:

For set checklists see our card list hub and the M6a card list. The Storm Emeralda Raikou ex 024/076 has its own guide, Raikou ex 024/076 (Storm Emeralda), and the Crown Zenith and VSTAR Universe V prints are compared in Raikou V GG41 vs Japanese 218/172. Anything not listed — the Gold Star included — goes through Quick Order.

On October 29, 2026 fan sites reported a Japanese trademark filing for 「イナズマの衝撃」 (working English translation: Lightning Impact; no official English name exists), which collectors read as a possible Raikou set; nothing is announced. Our Lightning Impact trademark guide explains what is confirmed and what is not, and the ex★ 2027 trademark round-up covers all four marks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Raikou Gold Star card?

It is the Raikou★ card from the 2005 PCG era: Japanese number 039/106 in PCG4 “Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean” (Friday, April 8, 2005), with an English counterpart numbered 114/115 in EX Unseen Forces (Monday, August 22, 2005). It has HP 80 and is credited to Masakazu Fukuda.

What is the Japanese card number of Raikou Gold Star?

039/106. The Entei★ is 019/106 and the Suicune★ is 032/106 in the same Japanese set. In English the trio is numbered 113/115, 114/115 and 115/115.

Is the e4 Raikou 039/088 the same as the Gold Star Raikou?

No. The e4 “Split Earth” Raikou is 039/088 from the e-series; the Gold Star Raikou is 039/106 from PCG4. They share the digits 039 but have different sets, eras and designs, so always quote the denominator.

Does Samurai Sword Tokyo list a Gold Star Raikou?

Not on October 29, 2026. Sourcing requests for a specific card go through Quick Order; the product page shows the current terms for anything we list.

Which Raikou cards do you list instead?

Offered as PSA 10 back orders: the e4 039/088 at ¥264,600 (~$1,718), the BW4 Raikou EX SR 071/069 at ¥148,720 (~$966) and the S12a Raikou V 218/172 at ¥18,574 (~$121), sourced to order; the product pages show the current terms.
