Mercari Japan Pokemon cards are listed by private sellers across Japan, and Mercari’s own help pages describe a specific route for buyers who live abroad: purchases go through partner cross-border operators rather than through a direct overseas account. This guide sets out what those official pages state, and where a Tokyo shop is a different route.
It is not a verdict on either platform. Mercari is a large peer-to-peer marketplace with published rules for trading cards, and its overseas route is a documented service. The wording below follows the official Mercari and Buyee pages as printed on September 29, 2026, and anything the pages do not state is left out.
Per Mercari’s help page, overseas residents buy through Mercari-partnered cross-border operators, which purchase from the seller and ship abroad. Sellers send each transaction to the operator’s Japanese address separately. The Buyee Cart help page lists a ¥500 per-order purchase fee plus shipping at cost, and it does not say whether that applies to Mercari orders. How Overseas Buying Works on Mercari Japan
Mercari’s help page on overseas transaction support defines the service as follows, in translation: Mercari, or a cross-border e-commerce operator officially linked with Mercari, receives a purchase request from an overseas customer who cannot use Mercari, buys the item from the Mercari seller and ships it abroad. Mercari’s wording describes overseas residents as customers who cannot use Mercari.
Two further points come from the help pages. The seller ships to a designated domestic Japanese address of the operator, and the seller does not pay overseas shipping. Each transaction is shipped separately, with no bundling of several purchases into one parcel.
The Official Partner List
The Mercari help page carries a list of officially linked operators. Names visible on the page include BUYEE, Zenmarket, FROM JAPAN, BUY&SHIP, Ezbuy, 8mart, CDJapan and DEJAPAN; the page has more entries than this, so read the full list on the page before choosing a service.
Mercari’s November 15, 2019 press release described the first such arrangement: Buyee, a proxy service for cross-border e-commerce run by a wholly owned subsidiary of BEENOS Inc. In that flow the customer orders on Buyee, Buyee buys on Mercari, the seller ships to Buyee’s Japanese warehouse, staff inspect the item and Buyee ships overseas. The release named PayPal, Alipay and UnionPay as payment methods at launch and said the service covered more than 100 countries and regions; current payment methods are on the operator’s own page.
What the Official Fee Pages State
Buyee’s Buyee Cart help page lists a purchase fee of ¥500 per order and a guarantee plan of up to ¥500. A second payment covers domestic shipping at actual cost, international shipping at actual cost, special fees such as GST or other taxes at actual cost, and optional services. The exchange rate uses the market rate between 11 AM and 12 PM JST.
That page is for Buyee Cart. It does not state whether the same amounts apply to orders placed for Mercari items. Check the fee page of the service you choose before ordering; this guide gives no total-cost estimate.
Buyee’s Authentication Option for Mercari
Buyee’s page on its authentication option for Mercari lists Trading Card among the categories. The option carries a separate authentication fee on top of the item price, and the page says the amount varies by category and brand. If the item is judged counterfeit, the order is cancelled and the item price including the authentication fee is refunded. If the item cannot be authenticated, the customer has pre-selected either “Purchase the item as is” (authentication fee refunded) or “Cancel” (full refund). The page asks customers to make contact within 14 days after receiving the package.
Mercari’s Own Rules Relevant to Cards
Mercari’s guideline for trading card listings asks for photos of the front and back plus close-ups of damage, and a description that includes the card name, series, set, rarity, quantity and condition. It discourages subjective terms such as “beautiful condition” or “good condition”.
The buyer guidelines state that the payment method cannot be changed after the purchase is completed, that the buyer should give the receipt rating only if there is no problem, and that if a problem is found the buyer should not give the receipt rating and should consult the seller. Returns for the buyer’s own convenience are prohibited unless both sides agree. The full-compensation support is excluded in some cases, including shipping outside Mercari’s system, unclear product details and address errors.
Mercari also has a page on counterfeit listings. It covers branded goods and does not mention trading cards. The official pages do not say whether these buyer protections apply to a purchase made through a partner operator, where the operator rather than the overseas customer is the buyer.
